About Plagiarism!

Hi, everyone! Fighting2!! ^^
What I learned last week in ELC class was plagiarism..I am really sure that this problem is popular among students..
What is plagiarism???hmmm..
Plagiarism is taking the work of another and presenting it as one's own. When a writer deliberately uses someone else's ideas and material without acknowledging its source it is considered as plagiarism..
Hmmm..
For example, doing some 'copy and paste', paraphrasing too closely, translating without any appropriate acknowledgement, buying papers or outsourcing, recycling your own paper, making collusion (group discussion, share ideas but write by our own), fabricating data and doctoring.
So.. What are the causes of plagiarism and the failure? Students may fear failure and they believe they have no choice but to plagiarise. Other than that, students may plan poorly for the time and effort in which they may not know how to integrate the ideas. Then, college instructors may assume that students have already learned how to do some research and learned the appropriate academic conventions of research.
#Students must believe that their research assignments are their opportunities for genuine, rigorous inquiry and learning.
#Faculty needs to design contexts and assignments for learning that may encourage students to not simply recycle information but to investigate and analyse its sources.
#Administrators need to foster a program or campus-wide climate.
For the best practices, we can explain plagiarism and develop clear policies. For example,we may talk about the underlying implications of plagiarism. Besides that, we can improve on the design and the sequence of assignments in which we can start building possible topics early or support each step of the research process. Then, we might attend ourselves to latest sources and the use of reading that considers conventions, focuses mainly on reading and showing them on how to evaluate their sources. Next, we have to work on plagiarism responsibly by using plagiarism detection services cautiously, especially for the assignments completed by university students. Moreover, we can take appropriate disciplinary actions in order to curb plagiarism.
